Olympics!

Two amazing bits of wisdom I shall never forget.

So we were watching the opening ceremony of the olympics, on NBC. Good coverage, the main anchors were Bob Costas and Brian Williams

I like bob , he knows his god damn sports. And brian williams is a fairly good hard news guy, capable announcer. Most of the time it was fine.


Then at one point in the middle, brian went to take a piss or something. Suddenly some other guy, who I never heard identified, was talking with bob commenting on the various presentation shows the italians put on.


At one point these gaily dressed renaissance courtesant garbed fellows are jumping around with trumpets and long flowing banners. Some "Traditional" court dance of italy or something This "mystery idiot" announcer says "This MAY be where rhytmic gymnastics got its start"

.....really? First off you have the wrong olympics. This is winter now. Secondly....renaissance italian guys in poofy royal court costumes invented rhythmic gymnatics ....you may want to look that one up.



Then, just out of nowhere later on to fill some dead air as this one dude was dancing, the same idiot announcer goes "You know, The renaissance started in Italy"

...wow....Someone went to college huh?


For some reason all the music in the background seemed to be exclusively old american 80s music. Do no other countries have music? Couldnt they at least use our new music? Its like some amusing Saturday Night LIve skit about how quaintly behind europeans are with american culture. The 80s are still cool or something.

It was also somewhat odd that they seemed to keep commenting on how cold it was there....its the winter olympics jackass. Did you expect to go and see a bunch of 80 pound Kenyans running marathons in short shorts? W-I-N-T-E-R olympics. Outside. Snow. Brr
